About the Artist Talk.
Artist Esteban Ramón Pérez TMR Executive & Artistic Director César García-Alvarez for a casual IG Live conversation that will explore the concept of home and the way it manifests across their practices. This artist talk series, titled Jangueo, is staged in conjunction with TMR’s current exhibition, Aqux, that brings together 23 Latinx artists to re-imagine ideas about home and the ways it shapes our sense of personhood.

About the Artist.
Esteban Ramón Pérez received his BFA in Art from the California Institute of the Arts in 2017, and his MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 2019. Raised in his father’s upholstery shop, Pérez incorporates materials from his youth, including leather and embroidery, to create monumental paintings. His practice utilizes his experience as a professional upholsterer and intertwines cultural and artistic sensibilities of his Chicano heritage with the visual language of postmodernism as well as issues rooted in postcolonial history. His work embodies facets of art histories, subjectivity, spirituality, and social issues. He has exhibited at Arlington Arts Center, Arlington; Calderón Gallery, New York; James Cohan Gallery, New York; and Jenkins Johnson Projects, Brooklyn. He is a participant of the 2020-2021 NXTHVN Fellows. Pérez lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
